About Paper Chromatography:
The ink has to be soluble in the solvent, water or ethanol, so that it can move up the chromatography paper.
The colors in a dye (only if it has more than 1 component) separate because different colors vary in their solubility.
Some dye spots travel further up because they are more soluble in the solvent.
You will obtain a partially or fully solvent-absorbed chromatography paper after conducting the experiment. You will observe that if you had used a few different inks, some may have more than 1 components in them, and you can identify them by the number of spots that have moved up the paper.
